Greetings, fellow Frozen Pucksters!

Skool Blog

Around 2010, I was at a meeting of the local "Sci-Fi Mafia." I was having a beer. Quite a few, actually… I was talking about ice hockey with some sci-fi and RPG nerds. I don't remember if we were discussing the Finnish national team\'s great success or their dismal failure, but hockey was definitely the topic of conversation.

An employee from the local RPG shop was also there, and I ended up chatting with him about my favorite board games from my youth. I mentioned the original version of Blood Bowl—the '80s version. That fun, punk-spirited edition meant for bold players; the kind of players who don’t make choices out of a fear of failure, but out of an anticipation of success.

After trying the third edition of BB a few times, I realized it was the exact opposite of everything I loved. This might annoy current BB players, but the truth always annoys someone. That's just how it is.

Anyway, on my way home, the seed of an idea struck me: Why isn\'t there a board game for ice hockey? After all, the sport inherently has everything a good game needs: thrills and spills, goals, body checks, team development… a bit of violence and a healthy sporting spirit.

I started working on the idea.

That point in my life’s timeline was, of course, anything but ideal. I had a "life"—a wife, kids, and all the responsibilities that "tackled" my hobbies. (In reality, I was probably tackled by my own restless mind and shifting interests…) I toyed with the rules in my head for a while until the idea buried itself under the ice to hibernate.

Then, in 2016, the ice melted. The idea resurfaced when I stumbled upon Fudge dice while surfing some RPG websites. As a dyslexic and "number-blind" hobbyist, I fell in love with their easy, elegant interpretability.

And now, only 10 years later, here we are.

The blog is officially open—a place to reflect on and share the journey of a game being born.
